They are formed by an excess or collagen defect in the traumatized area.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #75c9d3;\"><strong>Who do they affect?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Between 5% and 16% of the population have some type of scar in their body.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #75c9d3;\"><strong>Types<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><em><u>Hyperpigmented scar<\/u><\/em>: is characterized by a dark color as a result of a higher degree of melanogenesis. It usually appears when the scar is superficial and in dark phototypes.<\/li>\n<li><em><u>Hypopigmented scar<\/u><\/em><u>:<\/u> in this case the skin can&#8217;t produce melanin, so it has a lighter color than the rest.<\/li>\n<li><em><u>Atrophic scar:<\/u><\/em> is characterized by being slightly sunken due to the lack of collagen. It&#8217;s especially common after acne or chickenpox.<\/li>\n<li><em><u>Hypertrophic scar and keloids:<\/u><\/em> are produced as a consequence of an overproduction of connective tissue fibers.
