One of the most sought after treatments in aesthetic dermatology is lip augmentation through hyaluronic acid infiltrations. As a result of the passage of time, of the loss of natural hyaluronic acid that we have in our body and by the smaller manufacture of elastic and collagen fibers, the lips tend to become thinner or have lip unsightly/asymmetries. It’s at this time, when certain people resort to aesthetic dermatology to recover the volume of the lips and eliminate imperfections.
What does it consist of?
The hyaluronic acid infiltration procedure doesn’t require previous allergy testing. It used topical anesthesia (30 minutes before treatment) or anesthesia de perforation to minimize any possible discomfort for the patient.
Then, it are performed micro injections of hyaluronic acid to give volume and elasticity of natural form to the lips; always respecting the naturalness and avoiding excesses or very bulky lips.
The duration of treatment is usually 15 minutes.
. The results are visible within 3-4 weeks since of first application, although if the lip is naturally very fine, after the first session, the change is already evident
When applying anesthesia, the patient doesn’t feel any discomfort or pain. The lips, during the next 2-3 days after the first injection of hyaluronic acid, swell, so it’s recommended to do the pretreatment on a few holidays or before the weekend.
How many sessions are needed?
In general, it requires two sessions spaced in time, at least two weeks. In this way the patient sees the evolution gradually and in the second session, small adjustments are made.
The duration of the effect is between 6 and 9 months, although it depends on the lifestyle of the patient (sun exposure, tobacco, skin type…). Their disappearance leaves no signs or consequences in the treated area.
- Avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatories the previous 10 days. It’s advisable to take anti-herpes medication in people predisposed to have them.
- Apply cold compresses 2-3 times a day for the first few days.
- Moisturize lips well.
